Fernandina Beach, FL — A New Jersey man is facing serious charges after he allegedly flew nearly 1,000 miles to Florida to confront and attack a fellow gamer with a hammer over an online dispute. The suspect, 20-year-old Edward Kang, was arrested on charges of attempted murder following the bizarre and violent incident.

Details of the Incident

Edward Kang, a resident of Newark, New Jersey, reportedly traveled to Fernandina Beach, Florida, after becoming embroiled in a heated dispute with another player of the online game “ArcheAge.” Despite never having met the victim in person, Kang’s anger led him to take drastic action.

On June 23, 2024, Kang arrived at the victim’s home after purchasing a hammer locally. He entered the residence through an unlocked door, dressed in all black and wearing gloves and a mask. The victim, who was taking a break from gaming to use the bathroom, was attacked by Kang, who struck him with the hammer. A struggle ensued, during which the victim managed to wrestle the hammer away from Kang.

The victim’s stepfather, who was awakened by the commotion, intervened and helped subdue Kang until deputies from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrived. The victim suffered serious injuries but survived the attack and received medical treatment.
